Cards & Personal Identification Technical Committee (CPITC)
Scope
In July 2000, this TC became a 'P' (voting) member of ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC17. With that change, the scope has been extended to track and ballot all the standards that are published by SC17. Thus currently, the scope is extended to "cards, identification and related documents" as specified by SC17. Technically, this covers a very wide area, ranging from contactless smart cards, vicinity cards, driver's licences, machine readable documents, and even biometrics. In line with local interest and relevance, we follow ISO/IEC standards closely like ISO/IEC 7816, ISO/IEC 14443, and ISO/IEC 15693 at the present moment. We have 4 current work groups: (1) Crypto and Contact Smart Card WG that mirrors SC17/WG4; (2) Contactless Smart Card WG that mirrors SC17/WG8; (3) Reader API WG that is unique on its own (because SC17 does not quite track PC application programming); and (4) Applied Biometrics and Machine ID WG that tracks developments in SC17/WG3, WG10 and WG11.
The relevance of our work cuts across the industry - it is more "horizontal" than "vertical". We welcome membership and work effort contribution from public and private sectors - may it be ministries, statutory boards, banks, system integrators, card manufacturers, reader manufactures and regardless of MNC or SME status. The main objective has always been "achieving greater usage and deployment through open standards". In areas where there are no relevant international standards (or not in detail), we will define Singapore standards so that we can achieve interoperability.
